Laos remains heavily dependent on agriculture which has traditionally been dominated by smallholder and subsistence farming with related micro and medium enterprises. This fact was highlighted during the launch and consultation workshop for the “Driving Small and Medium Enterprises and Smallholder Farmers in Building Climate Resilience project, held on Wednesday 31st May 2017 in Vientiane. The main objective of the workshop was to introduce the project and raise awareness on Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate change adaptation with focus on how natural hazards affect business, how to protect employees, assets and investments, and opportunities for engagement.
"Risk and uncertainty are common characteristics in thisd sector and anticipating and responding to challenges posed by various risks are dealt with daily as part of the conventional business cycle" The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry Deputy Director General of Agricultural Extension and Cooperatives Department, Mr. Somxay Sianonh said.
